Publicity - Rachel Joyce
Rachel Lee Joyce (aka DJ Nite Nurse) is a music and arts publicist and world music DJ. She spends her leisure time during the Vikings off season watching ESPN with the sound down and the dancehall reggae turned up.
A Minneapolis native, she got her start in music while in high school booking the long-since-demolished McCready’s Pub in downtown Minneapolis and throwing all ages punk shows. Rachel attended the University of Minnesota and originally majored in Making Money until she heard a record by African music legend Fela and decided to use her powers of persuasion and persistence to help artists get their work exposed and messages heard as a publicist. In addition to her work as a publicist, she is co-host of the Shake & Bake Show on KFAI, an organizer Afrifest, a board member of DEMO, and a volunteer ESL instructor. When people question her unusual passion for both art and sports, she is quick to point out “Boxing is just choreography with consequences.” She would love to tell you all about it over a Powers whiskey neat at Grumpy’s.
Cartoon character I would most like to be: Popeye. Days filled with drinking, brawlin’, hanging by the docks and a legacy of fried chicken & biscuits. “I Yam What I Yam!”
