Tapes n’ Tapes & Sound Unseen in Rolling Stone! (2003)

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

After debuting at the 4th Annual Sound Unseen Festival, Tapes ‘n Tapes have been enjoying an impressive amount of national and international attention in various magazines, newspapers, music sites, and blogs. especially after the group performed at this year’s South by Southwest festival in Austin, TX to stellar reviews. The boys have recently joined bands such as The White Stripes, The Prodigy, and M.I.A. and signed with XL Recordings and completed a seven show tour of the UK in May. Up next? Tapes ‘n Tapes will be headlining their first U.S. tour beginning in June 2006, including two sold out performances at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, and can be seen at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago July 2006.
You can also get your hands on a vintage Sound Unseen DVD for their first music video - which was born by the band at a make-yer-own-music-video booth at the Mall of America…in Bloomington, Minnesota (east?).

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

2005 saw the release of “Drums of Death”, DJ Spooky’s CD based on sessions he recorded with Dave Lombardo of Slayer. Other guest artists include Chuck D. of Public Enemy and Vernon Reid of Living Color. The record was co-produced by Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto. DJ Spooky is also a professor of music mediated art at the European Graduate School where he co-teaches (with Michael Schmidt) Intensive Summer Seminars in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. His most recent projects have included The Sounds of Katrina, an experience of the city of New Orleans through words and music as the city prepared to celebrate Mardi Gras. Also, a DJ Spooky video shot and instructional interview are featured on the new Microsoft site called Crossfader.com, that aims to become a resource and guide for DJs and electronic musicians using PCs, rather than Macintosh computers.
